I forget the guy's name but the first guy to ever win a million dollars on the show did the same thing Katy did. He called his friend on the million dollar question just to inform him that he was going to win a million dollars because he knew the answer to the million dollar question. He didn't use a single lifeline either (besides as mentioned the phone a friend but it really wasn't for help). One of the best performances in game show history.
