Indie bands are kind of like pop girls in the sense that critics only use them for one or two albums then dump them (the same happens to pop girls but with the GP).
I don't think it's weird that Katy has stans. Katy and Gaga aren't that different. Both co-write their hit songs with hit producers. Their tours are an array of colorful props. They preach the "it gets better" mantra. It's the reason why their fans have such a fierce rivalry, because the artists are so similar.
Lady Gaga and Katy Perry also totally slept to the top/sold out massively from their original musical styles. Wow. We all know Kesha did the first one but at least she was always authentic
