The ascendant is the sign that was on the horizon at the exact time you were born and sort of the sets tone for the rest of your chart. It's the lens or filter that people perceive you through; the first impression you give out into the world. Aspects to your ascendant or to your rising sign's ruling planet (sometimes called your "chart ruler") can amplify your rising sign's influence.

I'm a Virgo Sun with Capricorn Moon; analytical, logical, very pragmatic. But my rising sign is Sagittarius which adds an extroverted, adventurous surface element to my outward personality. My Sun is also in the Ninth house (Sagittarius & Jupiter) and my Jupiter is conjuct my Mars, which adds even more Sagittarius energy into my chart, even though I have no actual planets in Sagittarius.

So if you're a Pisces Rising, you may want to look at the position of Neptune in your chart, and Jupiter too (because it's the traditional ruler of Pisces). Gemini Sun and Leo Moon indicate someone very bold, dramatic. and creative, but the Pisces ascendant softens all of that fire and gives a very soft, gentle appearance to the outside world.

Let’s say that you have an earth Midheaven, which would give you a water Imum Coeli. This means that you are sturdy, competent, and persistent in public matters and regarding your career. I'm a Virgo with Sagittarius Rising too, sis!! We're lowkey the best combination. Earthy Virgo gives us mental clarity, intellect, and wisdom while Sagittarius gives us optimism, exuberance, and a sense of adventure. We're the best of both worlds.
