They do make a very valid point.
I'd like to send a shout out to the comedic industry that has suffered because everyone's getting too sensitive.
We should be comfortable enough that we can make racist, homophobic, discriminatory jokes without being offensive.
We survived the 90s and early 00s. What happened?

I think ATRL just is... People I've seen on here, like to jump on others if they say something minor or like you said, slip up when not meaning anything by it.
Don't really like getting into these kinda discussions because you never know who you'll upset.

Not one of them said they'd be a offended if I was singing the n word.
I learnt, once again, not to listen to these trolls and it's likely that they're brought up in a less civilised society than I.
I can only hope that life gets better for them, and in general, all people that are easily offended by such matters.

I think the N word is very inappropriate, but I feel that if a Black person were to say the N word, they shouldn't be offended if someone else says it.. it's a bit of a double standard that one person is "allowed" to say a word but the another person isn't.
I have never said the N word, but I feel like if someone is offended by the word, they should stop saying it as well. Because if people hear the word often, they are bound to say it as well. I think if it's really making people offended, we should all as a society stop saying it, instead of a certain group from being restricted.
Does that make sense? I never use the word, and I understand why people are offended, I just don't think it's fair that some people can say it and some can't

The joke is that they're trying to emulate "tone policing." Supposedly, it's when a social justice type makes a perfectly valid argument and anti-SJ types dismiss it entirely if the speaker's tone is too angry. It's a logical fallacy.
The joke doesn't quite work when half the accusations of tone policing are levied against people who (rightfully) get offended when they're told that they're scum and they should kill themselves.

EDIT: Actually, after thinking about it some more... The militant political correctness coming from certain movements is the expected response to extreme bigotry that has been festering in society for a very long period of time. It's a rubber-band effect where the reaction is proportionate to the severity of the issue (with exceptions to be made for certain things that are just not being addressed the right way at all).
So despite the social unrest that it's causing, I guess I can't really be against it. I just hope it sorts itself out in the long-term.

It really is not a double standard. I watched a video that someone posted here a while ago that described it so well. In the video they gave a scenario where one sibling jokingly calls his sister a bitch, and it's okay because that is their personal relationship. In this scenario, a stranger thinks 'oh okay, you call your sister a bitch so I can say it too!' and he said that would be unacceptable because they don't have that type of relationship. The word then becomes harmful and offensive.

Girl, have you checked out social media and all the comments about refugees from Syria? These comments are gross, inhumane, vile & nasty. Just to give you one current example.
It's actually the other way around. Social media gives a lot of people room to parade their ignorance and hatred. And all in public.
And to feel like a hero for being an ignorant, hateful & pathetic matter, just because some other fools will like, favour and retweet that BS.

Let's be honest everyone is too sensitive. Even the right wing who love to degrade the social activism culture burst into tears at the slightest opposing viewpoint.

I agree with this. Im not a fan of this "I can say this word and you cant" bulls**t. If a word offends you so much, take it out of your vocabulary

In the same way you can say certain things to your BF/GF that I can't. It's not a double standard. It's a standard of human communication. Have some tact and respect.

The whole 'Call out' culture is gross. I agree 100% with your post
Young people make mistakes, adults should not bash them but educate them, make them understand.
If they still shout out slurs and act in such a way...well..

You're abusing the term "political correctness." Being PC means to calculate your words in order to avoid offending people so those overly sensitive people attacking others for innocent mistakes are not being PC at all.

Yes. If something offends you, make the choice and ignore it. Why waste energy on something that upsets you.
