and if you really knew her
you'd know she's proud to be Korean and has tremendous Korean pride
and has talked about her pride of being Korean many times.

It is really misogynistic and racist for her to say things like this.
Not all Asian girls are "timid and shy" and she is not all that special. Besides, although I have only seen her in the Dr.Pepper video, I remember that video features Asian women twerking or whatever, objectifying Asian women as sexual toys is not a progress from being what she considers as "basic." Girl has no brain. I was rooting for her as the first Asian female artist to break out in the U.S., this is truly a let down. Now girl, go back home.

Ffs now telling girls not to be afraid to be themselves is a crime.
Nowhere in this article does she ever say "Asian women are boring, awful, and basic." Y'all are just running with a negative message that clearly isn't there. So desperately wanting her to just be an Asian Iggy.

"I’m trying to come out here — to set an example of an Asian girl."
"I feel like I have done enough for Asia and changed a lot of girls."
This girl genuinely believes that she is superior than most of the Asian girls and is such an influential figure all over Asia. While literally all she does is appearing on a B-List fashion magazine as the date of a floppy white dude.
I don't know why people are trying to justify that. Do you also believe that Asian women are basic and she is much, eh, cooler?

"I feel like I have done enough for Asia"'
But this is just...
She has barely done anything for South Korea.

You're really reading into this wayyyy too hard. She's not bashing a certain image, she's lamenting the fact that some girls feel the need to uphold a certain cultural standard that's reinforced in the media. For the second quote, she's referring to 2NE1's fans who find inspiration in them where they couldn't find in SNSD, Wonder Girls and the like.
It's a goddamn interview, people phrase things poorly from time to time. It's not difficult to ascertain her intentions, especially when the most "offensive" word she uses is "basic."

She should have said Traditional
But you know she want's to be western so bad she used the word "Basic". Like somebody said it's very ignorant of her to call them basic.

Stop pretending like south korea is the whole asia, M.I.A is also from asia and she is way cooler and more talented than you, Malala is also asian and she is the youngest woman in this whole universe who get nobel peace prize.
I know you have small one line eye, but please read up some magazines to enchance your logic and knowledge.
This is tragic.

Exactly. She has done NOTHING noteworthy that'll make us proud of her representing us (I'm assuming when she says Asia she's talking about the whole continent and not just the South Korea). All she's doing is trying to be a Iggy Azealia wannabe
How dare she say she's done enough for us when 99% of Asia isn't even aware of her existence

Very poor choice of words, but I don't necessarily disagree.

Yeah, Americans make a huge deal out of Ariana Grande "hating America" for obesity issues, but acts totally understanding about a Korean girl thinking herself above basic Asians. The hypocrisy

Are you talking about the donut incident? People were hating on her because of the words that came out of her mouth, "I hate America", not for assuming all Americans are fat or we youre saying. Idg how its comparable to this.

Totally agree with what she's saying. She is from Korea and she knows what she's talking about. It is deeply embedded in Asian culture that the father is the head of the family. Women are mostly submissive and not encouraged to express individuality.
However, these white twinks complaining in this thread....

I hate America Vs. Asian women love being basic. What's the difference?

I am an Asian too and I disagree with her. "Asian women are shy and obedient" is just an ignorant stereotype of Westerners. As a matter of fact, except some hardcore 2ne1 fans, most of her defenders here are not Asians.

South Korea & Japan =/= Asia
But for those two countries, she is right. Not girls, also men really are afraid to show their individuality, because its seen as something negative there, while being uniform is hailed. You can lose job over the color of your hair there, even dying your hair brown is seen as extravagant with negative connotations in those societies
