Couple left baby on sidewalk so they could get into bar

Told they could not bring their baby into a bar, a Florida couple allegedly chose to leave the 3-month-old unattended on the sidewalk while they stayed inside and drank shots for more than two hours on Tuesday morning, police said.
Antonio Nieves, 28, and Amy Schafer, 27, were charged with child abuse and child neglect after police in Margate responded to their home at 3:30 a.m., Det. Erin Blanton told the Daily News. The couple was allegedly causing a disturbance and Nieves struck his girlfriend as they were trying to get inside their home, Blanton said. Nieves was also charged with domestic battery, she said.
When officers arrived, Schafer told police they were at O'Malley's Sports Bar on State Road 7 between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. and had brought their baby. The bar manager told them they could not have the child inside, so they put the infant in a car carrier that they left on the sidewalk outside.
During their court appearance Wednesday, Broward County Judge John Hurley said that the mother would "would go outside every five minutes to check on her baby and go back inside and continue taking shots," according to TV Station NBC Miami.

I hope they get the maximum penalty, as well as treatment for what seems like alcoholism. I hope the child is able to be placed in a loving and caring environment. I can't imagine growing up and learning my parent's left me outside on a sidewalk to get drunk.
The parents are truly terrible.
