Miley thought the time was ripe for a joke about pregnant Kim Kardashian’s nipples. She expressed jealousy of Kim’s unborn child because he’ll get to breast-feed from them. She even mimicked sucking on a nipple, making it one of the most uncomfortable moments on TV in recent memory.
She also jokingly flirted with Justin Bieber following his emotional performance, which would have gone unnoticed if not for the fact that Bieber was sobbing onstage as she did it. So much for timing.
Should we really be promoting weed to underage, impressionable children who are watching the VMAs? Can’t you at least wait until these kids are 18 to ruin their lives, Miley?
Even more awkward was the singer’s need for attention. She wasn’t content to just pass along Moonmen trophies to those who’d won them — she had to make everything about herself.
Later, after congratulating the Weeknd on his performance, undoubtedly one of the best of the night, she was still able to compare it to herself and her own onstage antics.
The fact is, Miley was never suitable as a host. Actors are far superior as hosts — they have experience with improv, they understand comedic timing, they know when to get serious. Miley lacked all of those skills — and more.
And to end the night with a performance that featured the lyric, “Yeah, I smoke pot,” and release a surprise album of your own? That wasn’t hosting, Miley. That was just three hours of self-promotion.
