Amid news of Viacom layoffs, low network ratings and MTV Iggy (a division of MTV World) shuttering, rumors are running rampant that this year may be the last for the Video Music Awards, the annual music video celebratory ceremony. Multiple sources tell Billboard that the VMAs may be in jeopardy after 2015.

The VMAs have been running since 1984, and the show entered its 32nd edition tonight. Last year's event met with an 18 percent ratings dip -- drawing just 8.3 million total viewers after pulling in 10.3 million in 2013.
Hopefully the ratings pull up this year to save them, if not then R.I.P Queen of Pop Billboard
Doubt it, if anything they will merge the Movie Awards and VMA's (this could actually be a way to ensure theres always some celebs there) but it's just too iconic and I can't see them cancelling it without "one final VMA's".
People forget too the ratings always go up and down, just because last years flopped doesn't mean they forever will.
What ? What kind of BS. VMAs is MTV's most watched event, even with 8M What kind of BS ?
BS.
Well the ratings keep going down and tbh the VMA's have become a parody of themselves, you just know someone will try something controversial. It just comes off as fake and calculated now
It's their biggest show and the last one with credibility. They're cancelling the MTV movie awards though

Are the VMAs done? Probably not, according to Mike Jafar, Viacom's vice president of corporate communications. Jafar denies that the award show's days are numbered, saying the rumors are "not even remotely true."
