Tonight's VMAs were very entertaining... it would be hard to deny that. It was a trainwreck you couldn't look away from and will probably go down as iconic and what not.

However, if tonight proved anything, it's the arguably desperate state that the music industry is in. The performances are a mere afterthought to what everyone else did to outshock each other and become the next hot meme on social media. Is this really what it takes to make an "impact" on our generation now?

I think the music industry needs an overhaul. We need some new faces cause these current ones ain't cutting it.

If anything it showed how tragic it is when the main girls like Gaga, Bey, Rih ,Katy are not part of the show. When they all attend then it is a proper show, this was funny to watch though

Compare the 2015 VMA's to the 2015 Grammy's.

In the grammys we had Gaga & Tony singing Jazz classics, Bey singing a classic Katy singing a nice ballad, Rihanna singing a nice vocally sounding song

If anything, Bieber and Miley are saving pop music right now.

I agree with the OP. Now it's all more about putting on a show rather than making music (see the Bad Blood staged feud, for example).
