So, i was just watching Lisa Kudrow's show The Comeback and there was a scene where she mentions the Ozone Hole and she's like, 'Remember when that was important'? or sth like that.

And it really got me thinking. I remember when i was younger everyone was talking about this. Like, the Ozone Hole is growing bigger and its threatening, stop using hair products, or the pollution from cars and work places that were making things worse. I remember they made such a big deal about that. What happened now? why is no one talking about this? Its been years. Shouldn't the hole be huge by now? After so many new things pollute the air and atmosphere like that? Shouldn't the world end by now? Why is no one talking about this anymore? is it not threatening now? Did the World Government found a way to protect the Ozone Hole?

Now we are told about Global Warming and now this is the new threatening thing. So, in a few years wil that be forgotten? Will be be told yet another fairytale to keep us scared for the next coming years?

Why was Ozone's Hole era so short and irrelevant? Where is the longevity? where is the impact?

Really? Because it's been YEARS since i last heard someone mention the Ozone Hole. When i was younger, this subject was always on the news, they were constantly telling people to not use stuff and make things worse and **** like that. Now its Global Warming and its effect. What's next in 10 years when Global Warming is not relevant anymore? what are they gonna push next?

Now that you mention it, I don't know what happened with that thing! It was a huge deal. My school even made a big conference with parents and teachers and students and gave us some speeches about how to take care about the environment and how to prevent the Ozone Hole of getting bigger and all that. Now I haven't heard anybody talk about that. They just mention global warming and pollution in general

The two terms were always used together. The ozone layer is directly tied to Global Warming.

To answer your question directly, though, it's because the hole is shrinking -- the media runs off of perpetuating fear, not scientific insight. "Ozone Layer Repairing Itself" isn't as scary, re: newsworthy, as "Our Atmosphere is Eroding."

Don't worry it changes every decade or so. When I grew up in the 80s we were shown many pictures and had campaigns for acid rain. The forrests were dying!
That one has changed cause a lot of countries (including the US) changed their regulations for emissions and became a lot stricter.
The 90s felt Ozon layer to me and the 00's it was the plastic soup and global warming.

Its so ****ing good. And the fact that Lisa added this exact line it to tell the world. Like, i instantly thought about this right after she said that.

Kind of a dumb comparison between Ozone and Global Warming.

We forgot about the Ozone hole because we mostly fixed the problem and it is now getting smaller.

When/if we fix global warming we will stop talking about it as well.
