Ed's manager, Stuart Camp, said on twitter a few days ago that Ed is not going to the VMAs. Ed is performing on Friday at FusionFest, a festival in England.
I think the vid in the OP is a reference to maybe a comedy sketch featuring them or actors playing them. Miley mentioned in her interview that there will be skits/sketches at the VMAs. Perhaps this is one of them.
