I looked it up, Ferret isn't huge. The size it shows in the Pokédex is its length, not its height. This is Ferret in the anime:

The magnets were evolved into that shape because it makes it easier to pull objects.
The red and blue is because magnemite also want to be able to seperate the north from the south poles of the magnet
There are clear advantages for a pokemon that already has magnets to evolve into having magnets in the shape/color Magnemite does.
There's no clear advantage for an ice pokémon to evolve into an icecream that people would love to eat. That is, unless they reproduce by being eaten. In that case, I guess it works.
I tried really hard to legitimize Magnemite over Vanilla ice cream. Did it work?
