Yall need your guns taken off you. It's RARE that you hear of gun crime in Europe for example. Sure crime still happens but at least things like this are avoidable.
Hell, here in the UK even bloody cops don't carry guns (apart from extreme circumstances).
America are so backwards for still allowing them at all. Like...
people saying stuff like 'Murica. this isn't a joke. people are dying. :
Yeah but hopefully all this media coverage can make the US government realize gun laws are really needed right now to prevent the loss of any more lives.

wont happen. Obama tried really hard after the massacre at the elementary school a few years back and the republicans rejected every gun reform plan, even the common sense measures. they were pressured by the NRA and gave in. at this point its a lost cause. Hopefully the next president can pass something.

I see. Perhaps statewide referendums could allow for gun-control to be implemented in certain states and then it would spread around ?
It's possible (certain cities have already banned guns before [only to have the bans reversed in court]), but a nationwide law doesn't seem possible to me at all. The NRA and similar corporations have too much money, power, and influence for their motivations to be ignored by politicians.

Like what was happening with gay marriage until the Supreme Court stepped in? Eh, a few states (mostly in the north east) may go along with it but not many. And unlike gay marriage I don't think the supreme court would step in on this issue and issue a national mandate for very much the same reasons as alexanderao just said.
