Just challenge them whenever they make an offensive comment.

Ultimately it's up to you how you deal with them. If you want to keep a relationship with them you can or you can ditch them as soon as you move out. No-one will blame you either way.

Luckily I don't have this problem... It must be really awkward. This mindset just can't be changed in most cases...

Don't argue or fight with them. Be kind about it. Try your best to teach them in the nicest way.

Hm, my parents are progressive but were ignorant on a lot of things. When I was much younger they seemed to have many outdated views. After years of challenging them on certain views, they're pretty great on almost everything now since they were open to seeing things in new ways and becoming educated on issues they didn't know much about.

I don't think most people are like that however. So I would recommend picking your arguments carefully and knowing that it's not always worth it to start fights. Just bite your tongue and try to appreciate them for their redeeming qualities if you can. If it's really awful, just try to withstand it until you can support yourself.
