Because racism is blatantly involved and is therefore a valid talking point.
No one sane is defending the man, but ignoring race in this case when the murderer claims that's the motive makes no sense. If you're bored of people talking about racism and race issues log off. It's still an issue and there are plenty of black Americans that are probably scared of the kind of backlash this may cause. Whether you choose to accept it or not, there will be plenty of dumb people that will use this as a reason to hate black people.
