Escort site raided; Washington D.C. SHOOK

Offices Of Escort Site Rentboy.com Raided, CEO And Six Employees Arrested
Apparently, someone just figured out Rentboy.com is not a site devoted to finding apartments for young men: The New York offices of the infamous escort site were raided this morning as part of a major prostitution sting.
Rentboy.com CEO Jeffrey Hurant and six employees were taken into custody, as documents and computers were seized and millions of dollars in personal and business funds were frozen.
The company bills itself as the world’s largest male escort service, receiving 500,000 unique visitors a day, who pore through a directory of some 10,500 escorts across more than 2,100 cities worldwide. (The company’s tagline is “Money can’t buy you love … but the rest is negotiable.”)
“As alleged, Rentboy.com attempted to present a veneer of legality, when in fact this internet brothel made millions of dollars from the promotion of illegal prostitution,” said acting U.S. Attorney Kelly Currie.
It’s been alleged that the raid was prompted by the site’s recent launching of a $1,500 scholarship program designed to help escorts afford college.

First Ashley Madison, now this! Internet sex sites are being hit hard this week!

Feds Raided Rentboy.com Because Washington Insiders Fear Being Outed As Escort Users
The Ashley Madison leaks have a lot of power-brokers and politicians running scared.
Rentboy.com, the male escort site raided by federal agents on Tuesday, has always been pretty upfront about its business: Among other attributes, advertisers list their penis size, whether they top or bottom and what their hourly rates are. Hell, they named their annual awards the Hookies.
So why did the Feds wait 18 years to bust the site?
Some have pointed to the recent Ashley Madison hacks—claiming the public is newly outraged over websites that encourage immoral or illicit activities.
Others suggest closet cases in Washington, DC, are terrified they’re just one leak away from being outed—as homosexuals and johns.
Why was Homeland Security involved in the raid, after all? That’s what Gothamist wanted to know.
Don’t they handle terrorist threats and undocumented immigrants?
“[Homeland Security] was involved because the crime involved the internet,” U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Nellin McIntosh told Gothamist’s Nathan Tempey. “I don’t have an answer as to why now rather than some other time.”
But the New York Times reports Homeland Security got involved “apparently because it believed the site promoted prostitution across state and national borders.”
Still others think it was because CEO Jeffrey Hurant launched a $1,500 college scholarship last week. (The government can be sticklers about education and taxable income.)

Why would this trigger an investigation? Especially when authorities have probably known for years what that site is actually about...

Ridiculous.
It's embarrassing enough that prostitution is illegal, but to raid an escort service?
This is the problem with society. Imagine all the resources that are being devoted to this endeavor, one that has no victims, and whose only crime is being "immoral".
A ****ing mess.

So it's legal for guys to **** for money with some guys they don't feel attractive to in houses but it's illegal for guys to **** guys for money in hotels. Damn, if people want to pay for sex, let them pay for it.

Probably because prostitution isn't taxable and the money generated by the prostitution (dirty money) was going into this scholarship and into legal, federally recognized institutions.
