But I wonder why Michael Jackson didn't win the award ? Thriller ? Black Or White ?

"Thriller" actually wasn't nominated for Most Experimental Video in 1984; and it either way might've lost to Herbie Hancock's "Rockit", which was in my opinion deserving of the award. "Black or White", on the other hand, got royally snubbed at the 1992 VMAs, only getting a Best Special Effects nod. The only two MJ videos to have been nominated for Breakthrough Video were "Leave Me Alone" and "Scream": "Leave Me Alone" lost to "Kiss" in 1989 (but won Best Special Effects), while "Scream" lost to Weezer in 1995, but both videos were atually deserving of the award.
The VMAs have never really been that good to Michael Jackson. Janet actually has more awards AND nominations than Michael (even winning Best Choreography over him in 1988), and the few nods that MJ got were almost always in technical categories save for 1984 ("Thriller"), 1989 ("Leave Me Alone"/"Smooth Criminal") and 1995 ("Scream").
