I understand why people get upset over things like this, particularly regarding the representation of women (which irritates me greatly), but these lists are made to sell magazines and get online hits. They're purposely provocative to start conversations about the publication and about the music of the period.

This list is rather different from my own personal favourites of the decade ("Wanna Be Startin' Something" #2? Haha, no) but it's not the worst they could've come up with.

No one in modern pop music, except maybe Beyoncé, can touch Prince’s legacy as a perfectionist.

With that said, I really want to go through this list and listen to some of these songs. "Purple Rain" deservingly at #1 makes me happy. Sometimes I feel he gets overshadowed by the King of Pop, Michael Jackson -- but I remember that his legacy is just as respected.
