And you've got it backwards, since the point is not to assume the same market share but to use market share as a constant/consistent measure that allows for direct comparison across a variety of market environments over the years. It's about the closest thing to a 1:1 comparison that I can think (no system will ever be perfect).

No I get what the adjusted factor is, I just worded it wrong (I've been writing essays all week, my brain is starting to malfunction). And yes we have global album sales data, but the adjustment in the film industry is not for admissions (the equivalent of individual album units sold), but for the GROSS. We do not have album sale GROSS data. Record labels don't release how much money they earned from an album.
