I signed your petition, but in the mean time you may want to do your research on organizations and groups that advocate for the wrongfully convicted and may be able to assist you in fighting the case or point you in the right direction in finding help. The ACLU, the Innocence Project, many law schools have groups that research and concentrate on taking on wrongful convictions as a part of their curriculum. Do your research locally about what is organized and already functioning in your area -- especially if you guys don't have huge amounts of money to take on a lengthy appeals process. Get the media involved and keep his name and face out there; the higher profile your story, the more likely it is to get someone's attention that is able to help. Also don't be scared or shy about getting to know your local elected officials -- if this is ever going to go anywhere, your family has to be absolutely diligent to get his case heard. Good luck tho; so sorry to hear about what your family is going through.

I can't imagine how your mom must feel.
