A whopping 29% of young Americans identify as bisexual
Quote:
According to a new study out of the UK, 29% of all “under-30s” Americans identify as “somewhere on the category of bisexuality.”
Their research found that younger Americans (“under 30s” as they call them) are noticeably less likely than their “elders’ to adhere to labels. 29% of under-30s identify themselves as “somewhere on the category of bisexuality.”
Overall, 78% of Americans identify as completely heterosexual while 4% say that they are completely homosexual. 16% of American adults say that they fall somewhere in the middle. This is in high contrast to a May report from Gallup which purported “23% of Americans are gay or lesbian.” 24% of people aged 30 to 44 say that they’re somewhere on the scale of bisexuality, while only 8% or less of over-45s say the same.
Perhaps most interesting of all: 12% of heterosexual American adults say that they have had a sexual experience with someone of the same sex at some point in their lives.
The study comes out of UK market research first YouGov, the same company that earlier this week released a study saying less than half of young people in UK consider themselves “100% straight. "
The more I meet more people the more I'm starting to think sexually as a whole is a little fluid. One may identify as straight but that doesn't mean they couldn't be sexually attracted to someone of the Same gender.
It says somewhere on the spectrum of bisexuality which could mean anything. A person could only have relationships with people of the opposite sex, but find the same sex attractive at times and therefore fall into that category. Same with someone who only has relationships with the same sex but finds the opposite sex attractive at times. Does not mean they'd actually have sex with/get into a relationship with those people. There are people that fall somewhere on the spectrum and people that are smack dab in the middle of true bisexuality like myself.
