So I was having sushi with my good Japanese friend and she told me she will only have 1 kid because she feels like having more then 1 or 2 is selfish since the world is over populated. She said she does not want to contribute to the problem.
and it got me thinking...is it selfish?
I mean I always wanted a big family but then again she does point out good reasons not to so ya...
what do you guys think?
In a way, I guess? My mom told me something similar to this but it was in a more personal way. Like she said "Having one kid is enough. Your a handful as it is and just having this world run a mess with families having 10 kids is just too much." So i can see their point I guess?
one child is lonely, I'd say two if you decide to have kids, but I decided to not have kids cuz as it stands right now it's not a gift to live in this world and see it be destroyed. Humans are responsible for the extinction of several species and are threatening hundreds more, we are running through our natural resources at an alarming rate, humans are too materialistic, and society as we know it won't be able to maintain itself for another 100/150 years.
I think at a certain point its very selfish.. Like the Duggars for example. Why do you need to keep popping out a bunch of kids when there are plenty to adopt in the system? I know people aren't obligated but you don't need so many biological children. Its especially selfish if you can't afford to care for all of them.

this! adoption needs to become popular tbh. there are so many kidswho dont have a home. like have 2 biological kids and then adopt as many as you want. thats how I see it tbh

Depends on the country. In some countries, birth rates are below replacement so having kids would be selfless since these countries will be losing a large percent of their population.
No. If all couples had just one child, the population would start decreasing dramatically. This would be a problem for countries that aren't overpopulated such as in Europe or USA. We would see a lot of cultures slowly die away and being the generation that allowed many of our cultures die, now that would be selfish.
