Hilary Duff: There's More Work To Be Done
Quote:
Interviewer: In 2009, you did a campaign called "ThinkB4USpeak"
Hilary: The campaign I did was to stop people from saying "that's so gay". That really impacted me because I had friends, I'm sure I had said that before, and it was like 'you don't know what you're saying and how that's affecting people,' Just think before you speak, and that goes for a ton of different topics in life. We should all be more conscious and kind to each other, and accepting of everyone's individuality
Interviewer: Do you feel like the temperature, culturally, has gotten better in the last six years?
Hilary: Absolutely. There's a lot of work to be done, still. I think that people that were not expected to be softening up to gay marriage and all of this stuff, it shouldn't have taken this much work, that part is crazy to me. But, I do think things are becoming more acceptable that weren't. I think that everyone should be able to live a free life, and be who they are and who they feel inside.
Interviewer: A lot of your fans are in the LGBT community, probably get something from your music, even the idea of breathing in and breathing out through a life where a lot of people don't see you as equal, is probably really helpful.
Hilary: Absolutely. I hope so. I hope that whatever I'm putting out there is giving them a home, or giving them comfort, or relating in some way. It's exciting to live in this time where people are making such strides forward to just be more accepting and loving of one another.
