News: US couple spends $30k for pet cat

NEW YORK: In a heart warming deed, a US couple may end up spending a whopping $30,000 set aside for a house to save the life of their pet cat that has recently undergone a kidney transplant.

Andre Gonciar and his wife have got the procedure done on their cat 'Oki' at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital.

Oki, whom the couple had found clinging to life in a creek in Romania, has used up most of his nine lives.

I will never understand people who spend that kind of money on animals tbh, you can love them all you want but they literally don't carry the same worth as human lives, why go broke trying to save a common animal that still has a much more limited life span relative to your own?

It's cute on the one hand but strange on the other. If they got the money they can do with it whatever they want, obviously, but I feel like some people over-humanize animals a lot.

Humans are even more common than dogs or cats. So with that logic, "Why go broke trying to save your child's life if it's limited when children are common and there's other waiting to be adopted?".

I've never felt like it and you haven't, but some people have deep connections with the animals. It is another life, and they have the ability to establish relationships and bonds so it's not shocking. If they have the money and it means nothing, then I guess that's their decision.

Reminds me of my cousin's Yorkshire Terrier that was attacked by her neighbors' Golden Retriever. She spent $3,000 on surgery to save it and when it healed, it ran away. Hopefully their cat isn't shady like that Yorkie, because if so...
