He basically said their female fans can't relate to the song because it's about a boy's feelings towards a girl. In other words, he forgot lesbians exist. I wouldn't say that makes him homophobic, but he does have a history of being mindless.

50% of these celebrities in Hollywood are actually either gay, bi or lesbian but they're marketed as straight by their PR teams so they won't lose fans or their sex symbol status.
