Welcome Golden & Element to the tiebreaker results reveal. There's only one spot remaining here on the island. One of you will be officially joining the Top 4 while the other one will be eliminated from the game and become the ninth member of the Jury.
The winner of this due will be decided based off which castaway has the highest overall average in score this round.
Note: Ethan is not judging this tiebreaker but as I said earlier, he would have had to butcher one of you and elevate the other one completely to make a difference. The other three judges had the same overall leader in their rates anyway.
Let's see what you both brought to the table this duel...
The Entries:
1. Pre-Merge Round
The theme for this tiebreaker is...
Get Away
This theme is all about leaving the past behind and doing something new in your life. The song you select for this part of the tiebreaker should lyrically represent letting go of the past and moving into a new stage of life where one can find a new-found freedom from whatever was holding them back from doing so in the past.
The example for this tiebreaker is "Cruz" by Christina Aguilera off her sophomore studio album 'Stripped". Lyrically, Aguilera sings of leaving the past behind to make a change in her life. Whether an actual physical move or an emotional one, the track defines what this theme is all about.

I'm leaving today
I'm living it
Oh I'm leaving it
To change
1. Golden - Tim McGraw - Let It Go
Quote:
Dylan - 10 - I think you won this part as Tim sounds completely ready to "let it go" and let the past wash away. Great choice and v southern of you!
Quote:
Yvess - 8 - I like it.
Quote:
Mario - Golden - 10 - Perfect. Totally embodies the theme you guys were looking for.
2. Element - Christina Perri - Burning Gold
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - This definitely fits the theme well but in a tiebreaker, i always want to choose the best one and for this part, I think Golden does take the win as Christina is preparing to make a change, but it doesn't sound as "right now" as it could.
Quote:
Yvess - 10 - Perfect imo. Such a shame Christina didn't get to have that superstardom.
Quote:
Mario - Element - 9 - It's really fitting. The only thing that gave me some doubts is how she sounds more stuck in a past that she can't move forward from at times than like someone who moved on.
2. Emoji Round
The High Heel Emoji
1. Golden - Jay-Z - Change Clothes
Quote:
This emoji embodies arrogance mixed with fashion ego and pride. It’s all about feeling good and KNOWING that you look good as hell in your outfits.
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - You explanation makes this work more than it would without it in my opinion. I just think that unless this was a gender bending anthem (which i'd totally be here for), it works better from an independent diva than a rapper in most forms.
Quote:
Yvess - 8.5 - An ok choice for me. The explanation slayed.
Quote:
Mario - Golden - 8 - It's good for the emoji in the way you described but the heels represents female fierceness too much to me to make it work enough with a male rapper.
2. Element - Jennifer Lopez - Louboutins
Quote:
High heels serve as a symbol of so many different qualities - confidence, independence, strength, success, attractiveness, and power, to name a few. In this track, JLO exudes all of these connotations, as she declares independence from her part time lover, using Louboutin shoes as a metaphor for female empowerment.
Quote:
Dylan - 10 - This was really obvious but I'm not giving this a 10 because of the title. It combines the female fashion into an independent statement which is the exact diva-like vibe I personally get from this emoji.
Quote:
Yvess - 9.5 - I hate the song but its undeniably fitting for the emoji.
Quote:
Mario - Element - 10 - Easily predictable by your post in the thread but this doesn't make it any less perfect for the round!
3. Picture Perfect Round
Picture #1:
1. Golden - Jhené Aiko - W.A.Y.S.
Quote:
For this picture I could’ve easily found a song that showcased two opposites against each other, but I decided to dig a little deeper and truly look at the bigger picture here. To me, life revolves around obstacles that can be overwhelmingly painful and or overbearing . However it is what you do with these obstacles and challenges as they are a vital part of the circle of life. The bridge in the picture to me refers to a pathway that serves as a stepping stone to happiness and peace because at the end of the day, everything will be fined.
Quote:
Dylan - 10 - I'm giving you the edge on this one because you noticed more than just the polar opposites in scenery; something I myself had not even thought of. The bridge aspect of your explanation is really interesting and the song itself captures everything you described. Bravo.
Quote:
Yvess - 9 - Good song and lovely explanation tbh.
Quote:
Mario - Golden - 9.5 - This would've been a ten on a normal basis but I'm almost forced to differentiate here. Your entry was amazing too but I feel like Element's flourished more with the explanation.
2. Element - Nelly Furtado - All Good Things (Come To An End)
Quote:
This thought-provoking picture displays two very distinct opposites -- half of the tree is in full bloom, bursting with life and light, while the other half has died, and is surrounded by dry, desert sand. This art piece reminds me of the deep truth that life moves in cycles for all beings, and that eventually, all living things will die, even after a fruitful, strong, and healthy existence. In this song, Nelly hauntingly reminds us of this sad aspect of life, that the journey (signified by the pathway in the picture) will eventually end in death, and that we should enjoy and appreciate life while we have it.
Quote:
Dylan - 9.5 - You guys both did a great job here. I also loved your explanation and the song is one of contrast (life & death) that easily aligns with the image I gave you two. I just thought Golden fitting the bridge into his song selection took him a very slight notch above you. Still, a great choice.
Quote:
Yvess - 10 - So perfect. I love this song. your explanation is spot on.
Quote:
Mario - Element - 10 - Perfect song and amazing description. I love how fitting it is and you made it.

20th castaway eliminated from Survivor: ATRL Edition (Season 5) and the 9th member of the Jury is...
5. Golden - 9
Golden, your journey on this season of Survivor has come to an end tonight. You put up a good fight, but the emoji round is what made the difference in score prominent. Had you chosen another song, it would have been a tighter race. You originally weren't even a part of the 24 castaways but made your entrance in place of a disqualification and have taken that chance-encounter all the way to the Top 5. You outplayed 19 other castaways this season and that alone is a great achievement. Thank you for joining this season and i hope you had a good three month journey though it's over now. You are the ninth member of the Jury and will cast a vote in the upcoming finale so keep an eye on the thread in the meantime.
Congratulations to the official Top 4! Get to work on your reviews as a win this round is more important than ever for all of you. You still have about 5 days remaining.
