Actually it's much easier to break through now than it was back then. Nowadays you have Youtubers and Viners getting record deals and becoming celebrities. Look at JB for example. In the 90s you didn't even have American Idol or X Factor, you just went to audition for record executives and hope they'd deem you good enough to see and then you had to audition. Ramos himself said it, it's much easier to build brands and I am getting tired of you guys turning this convo towards knee. It has nothing to do with how I (and the law) thinks music should be consumed.

Streaming is great for music.

My entire music library was once illegally downloaded. Now I only have to illegally download 1989 and some super underground albums. This is a good thing. I am helping more than I did prior - and unlike most of yall I buy albums pretty often!

The movies are protected by the fact that they get released to Cinema before they become available online.
Games are protected because they are usually only available on specific consoles and the next gen consoles can often tell when the games are illegally downloaded and block your internet access.
But the most important aspect is the size. Easier to download a 7mb file than 13 gb file. Sooner or later 3D printing and new improved data sharing will come for them and the industries will keep struggling to survive.
