We have more options to buy and consume music than ever. Lazy artists need to step their game up and make people wanna support them, there's just too much to look out there in the internet, of course is going to be hard, now anybody feels that they deserve the world for doing anything. We no longer live in the world where we all NEEDED to like Deadney because we didn't have a choice.

Gaga still sells even with her music for free. Remember limewire, frostwire, mp3 download sites, pirate bay (at its peak)? I mean, that's bad bc you can't even track it and it's a permanently lost sale/stream since they have it for free.

Spotify kind buffers this effect by having on song able to get streams/money for an artist forever.

Now people understand more than ever that the model were your fave was conceived is outdated.

Who is going to buy some uninteresting stuff that is just useful for the moment when there's people that understand the new model and know that income from music sales is small compared to venturing in other ways of making money.

Staying in this outdated mentality is why Viners & Youtubers are catching up to some of our outdated faves.

You buy music or you don't. It's the one who made the music that makes the decision whether it's free or not, not you. You don't have any rights to choose for him. If you don't think his song is worth the damn 1.29 or the same price you paid for all of BTW then you simply don't buy it. If you think you like it enough that you must have it then you buy it. It's that simple.

Artists definitely need to do more to inspire people to buy CDs. Taylor using Polaroids was a great idea to drive sales. I used to buy CD's all the time and now I buy like 5-7 new albums a year which is still more than most people.

Streaming will be good for music once it's handled properly. When proper payments across all services come, when the popularity reaches a much higher point, and when things in general are more tamed and not so new and foreign to the industry it'll be good. Look at Sweden, they hopped on Spotify before everyone, back in 2008, and their industry is going to it's glory days back in early 2000's.

It's only messy now because half the people are still against Streaming despite it being the future.

A paid streaming service like apple is actually the best idea I've heard of combining the streaming age and the old fashioned outdated formula of getting paid for your efforts. Free music however is a crime against capitalism

No matter how badly you want to make it seem like Knee had the same hurdles to put up with as 2008-present artists...it doesn't work out.

If something is for free and you want it - you'll obviously always choose FREE over NOT FREE.

That's economics 101. The lowest common price always wins - and nothing beats free.

Also going back to profit they made in early 2000's at peak of music.

& Spain was the country hit the worst in 2000's, and because Streaming they had a growth in 2014 and following 13 years of decline.

In the first half of 2015 they also increased again because Streaming.

The only countries still declining in revenue a lot (Japan & Australia) are actually countries where Streaming hasn't taken off. So yeah, there's no use to say it's not helping the industry anymore.
