Not always, but when its all said and done I think it does. The untalented are done once they are out of their prime and pop radio and the media is done with them.
But when the talented play their cards right, they can continue on out of their prime with huge touring gross, being A list and relevant i.e. Madonna, MJ before he passed, Celine Dion, Prince etc.
All the untalented artist from the 80s, 90s and early 00s are forgotten and no where to be found. So yes, it does win in the end,
No, unfortunately. Jon McLaughlin comes to mind. His vocals, song-writing skills, and discography are nearly flawless, yet people only ever discuss him when trying to throw shade at Beyoncé for the whole Smack Into You/Smash Into You situation; and even then no one actually says his name. He's never had a Hot 100 entry, despite being around for nearly a decade or so. He doesn't even bother to pursue mainstream success anymore, but I'm happy he still releases new music like every two years.
not Billboard and stats being a "win" over acclaim, impact. and legendary/icon status. Yes, talent always wins because the untalented novelties don't last 1 year. Only quality survives the industry. But this is ATRL, sooooo
