I turn off my data most of the time unless I don't have wifi. I also turn it of for prolonged periods of time and only use it if I absolutely have to.

I haven't upgraded yet so I'm not sure but on my phone my max is 200mb a month. I usually reach that with ease. Canada literally has the most expensive, ****** phone plans ever. $30 a month for 200mb of data.
