I get that it's a role for him. It's acting, a gig, I get it. He's playing a character.
But when the love interests in his videos are still women (or there's no love interest and instead scenes of another straight couple), when the pronouns in his songs are always neutral or he's singing the hook on a heterosexual love track, when his shows still feature him dancing sexily with female dancers.........it's just sad that a gay artist can come out, but then his music and shows and roles and all kinds of career choices are designed to still portray him as straight or asexual. Same thing with Sam Smith, who even changed the pronouns of a ****ing cover to gender neutral. It's just sad. We have no representation on the airwaves or music videos, no geniune gay artists making explicitly gay art (aka a man referencing another man directly or showing them together) in the mainstream, still, in 2015.

adios has a lesbian interaction, but he doesn't even touch or look at anybody

I agree, but the vast majority of his fans are straight females who probably tolerate the fact that he's gay as long as he doesn't "shove it in their faces." He can still sell stadiums thanks to them so I'm not sure it's a good idea to break the formula. It's not like gay male consumers are ever heavily invested in gay male celebrities. Besides, he seems like a people pleasing type that needs approval from others.
