Canada has interesting history with the War of 1812 and Native Americans.

The problem is that their modern history pretty much is: "Look at this tiny unimportant role our country played in x, y, and z important world events.

Philippines' History >>> almost every powerful land tried to conquer it..and All races landed on it..hence the diversity

It was known as the "Spice Islands" and the "Gateway to Asia"

Columbus failed to circumnavigate the world but...thus Magellan succeeded

We actually talk about The Philippines a fair bit in US history since it was a colony for like 50 years.

When I have time I want to take a class on Medieval European history.

Is yours technically a magnet school? If so that makes sense.

Some still try it here. It's discouraging when the students know they don't have to touch a paper and still pass with a B as long they test fine.

This is true. But I think they have seriously downplayed the history of Native Americans in the region.



I love the period in your history when you rebelled against Spain (especially the Palmero Conspiracy). They didn't know what hit them.

There is a LOT that could be covered in Canadian History but it just isn't.

Colonization/treatment of First Nations
Residential Schools/cultural genocide of First Nations
Internment Camps for Japanese residents after WWII
Blockades to immigration and Chinese Head Tax for Asian and later Caribbean immigrants
The Canadian Railway systems and the unification of Canada
Quebec separatist movements (probably covered in Quebec but not so much in other provinces)

Instead we learn about the gold rush and the Hudson Bay fur company 10 times and then transition into our roles in the world wars a further 5 times.

Good for you, most would kill to teach students who actually want to be there.
