What's wrong with putting those numbers into perspective? The amount of promo CIL has had this decade is astronomical and yet it is only selling 1k copies more per week than Toxic.
|
I'm not sure that the type of promo it's had is that compelling for people to buy the song. The Super Bowl performance was over two years ago, the soundtrack was nearly a year ago and was a re-recorded version (meaning people would be wanting that one, not what they've already heard).
+ Sales isn't the only way to show that it's remembered. If you say it's promo is astronomical, that means that a LOT of people have been exposed to the song, meaning that it is more remembered than one that currently is not promoted in the same way.
And selling 1K more is better than selling 1K less, so which one is more rememebred?

The song has been promoted to death this decade, she really needs a way to make her classics stay afloat, we all know that if it wasn't for all that promo the song would be forgotten because even tho it's a good track, there's nothing iconic about it. Toxic was revolutionary, CIL was just another big hit.
|
What was revolutionary about Toxic exactly? I don't think it was generic but neither was CIL. They both stood out as much as the other for pop music at the time.

Um no it's because Beyonce picked it as a song as part of her Superbowl setlist and decided to re-record a new version for the 50 Shades soundtrack
Again, Toxic is close behind in numbers with no major promo this decade.

Right, CIL was chosen to be performed at the Super Bowl as Beyoncé was for being a huge artist with remembered classic and lasting success. This didn't happen with Toxic and Britney this decade, or has yet to ever happen.
CIL was chosen to be a Soundtrack song to one of the biggest movies this decade because it's a classic. This hasn't happened with Toxic or Britney.
Glad we have realized this, and add it to why CIL is the bigger classic in present.

I'm not saying completely forgotten, but it wouldn't be as remembered, as I said, the song was huge, but it was just another big hit, it didn't make impact.

There was nothing in 2004 that sounded like Toxic, while a song like CIL was just inside the trend of that time.
Toxic the song and the video made a huge impact and is one of the biggest songs WW of the last decade.
CIL was huge but it doesn't really compare to what Toxic was last decade.

There's nothing revolutionary about that Kylie Minogue reject. Good song, decent-sized hit, and that's it.

Toxic is bigger, more iconic, more remembered and more of a "classic" than any Beyonce song and I'm really, really not trolling

We can also add:
— One of the biggest movies this decade wanted CIL to be their Soundtrack song because it's a remembered classic.
— NFL wanted her to perform the classic to 100 million people at the Super Bowl because it's a remembered classic from an artist with many classics and huge success.
Thanks for reminding us Trent.

No impact?
It was almost always the highest listed pop song in critic’s decade end lists for the 2000s.
It paved the way for Amerie to haver her biggest hit of her career.
And it clearly inspired J.Lo’s Get Right.
The Oh-Oh dance very popular, even Oprah wanted to learn it
It has been in many big soundtracks.
etc.

What sounded like CIL in 2003? I need specific examples. I see its influence on the biggest hits of today tho. Can't say the same about Toxic.

"Crazy in Love" ranks 118th on Rolling Stone* 's 2010 list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. VH1 placed the song at number one on its 100 Greatest Songs of the 2000s list. At the 46th Grammy Awards, it won Grammys for Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Song Collaboration.
"Crazy in Love" was Beyoncé’s first number one single as a solo artist in the United States, peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight consecutive weeks. It also went to number one in the United Kingdom, and reached the top ten on the singles charts in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden as well as Switzerland and achieved multi-platinum certifications in most of these countries.

Omg I actually believed them when they called it local
The massive success, the massive acclaim, the awards.
It's insulting to even compare a throwaway modest hit like Toxic to this classic.

Can you please name at least 2 other songs that sounded like CIL then. I mean, if it was part of a trend then it should be easy.
And please don't just name songs with R&B singers and rappers. That adds nothing to the sonic description of the song.

Toxic IS revolutionary. The song was huge, the video was huge, every single look Britney had in the video is remembered and tried (see, Bad Blood). CIL is remembered by the urban community i guess, but Toxic is pop culture at it's finest, idk about CIL. The uh uh dance was cute tho.
