OP, I have nothing to contribute but Tina Turner and Whitney Houston are gay icons. Let's not forget Whitney's great Out cover/interview from 2000.

The country's majority is white. That's the only logical reason. There's plenty of non-white LGBT individuals that deserve to be revered as gay icons.

This is just because of how people who are white are more open and accepting when it comes to homosexuality. Think of europe and you'll see.

And I don't mean lately, I mean 10-15 years ago, when it wasn't 'cool' to support gay rights.
