American Life was a pretty lousy album, really. Its lack of success had nothing to do with the Iraq war commentary; it had to do with the fact that Madonna was exploiting the war to make an album about herself. The music video didn't feel sincere at all, it felt like a 40-something Madonna desperately seeking heat for the umpteenth time. There were still a handful of jaw-droppingly good tracks on it though, like "Intervention' and "X-Static Process" and "Nobody Knows Me" but most of it was amelodic, off-tune, and disjointed.

I think Bobby is among the minority here of people who ACTUALLY listened to the album. Although I do agree with him on the point he made about her exploiting the war to make SONGS like "American Life" and "Hollywood", however; I think the album itself was pretty genuine and personal in a creative way. And the fact that he didn't mention "Nothing Fails" as one of the jaw-droppingly good tracks makes his post null and void already.
