Two People Shot in Ferguson on Anniversary of Michael Brown

Two people were injured Sunday night when a shooting broke out at a protest in Ferguson, Missouri, where demonstrators had gathered on the one year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown.
The shooting occurred around 11:15 p.m. when police told the crowd to clear the area near Ferguson Ave. and West Florissant Ave. after traffic was blocked and businesses were damaged.
Hundreds had gathered in Ferguson on Sunday to mark one year since Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was killed by a white police officer — a death that prompted angry protests, as well as reflection on policing in the black community.
According to St. Louis County Police, a police officer came under “heavy gunfire” before returning fire. At least two unmarked cars were hit by bullets, the department said.
The shooting was captured on captured on video by media covering the demonstrations.
Two people were injured in the shooting, Reuters reported. One person could be seen lying face down on the ground covered in blood after the gunshots were fired. Another person was heard screaming “they killed my brother,” and a woman nearby fainted, the Associated Press reported.
