Both have been on for a very long time. Simpsons since the 80's and South Park since the late 90's. Which is the better animated show in terms of maybe what it once was since both have went down in quality over the years. Simpsons a lot more.
The Simpsons. Even though it isn't that great these days, 80's/90's/early 00's Simpsons craps on everything, and it's why it'll continue to be one of my favourite cartoons for life.

The first 14 seasons of The Simpsons were really great but then it slowly became so dire that its almost unwatchable now.
South Park was truly amazing until they killed off Kenny. For good. But it still remained a good show that kept its edge.
The Simpson softened their approach from their early seasons to become more family friendly. South Park never had the family friendly image what gave its creators the freedom to explore and address even the most serious topics/world affairs and they were never affraid to take that opportunity, often getting much deeper than The Simpsons with their increasing family friendly approach would dare to go without any censorship, and thats why I find the show much more superior and authentic.
