You would guess that the officer would typically be killed in this case, huh? I don't have stats, but I would guess that in most cases such as the one in the OP (a minor illegal drug deal), the offender would be simply be arrested for committing a crime.

If police officers should expect death for a petty crime like that, I wonder if we'll have people to even do the job anymore in a few years' time...

The unpredictability of criminals means that there is ALWAYS gonna be a chance of danger. Officers are trained to believe that they are dealing with unpredictable citizens , of which ANY of them could be dangerous criminals. Just because someone is doing a petty crime doesn't mean the officer is gonna let down his guard or expect this to be the standard situation. The fact that any situation is dangerous, is partially to blame for why cops are so damn trigger happy.

I didn't try to discredit #BlackLivesMatter with that post, as I didn't even mention it and clearly pointed out that African-Americans are disproportionately targeted and attacked by police officers. Also:

(414 + 138) = (552) / 233 = 2.37 times more whites and Latinos being killed than African-Americans. Yes, African-Americans are targeted more, but there is clearly an issue in the police force (most likely corruption and an abuse of power) when hundreds of people from various different backgrounds are murdered.

Yes, I was bringing light to the fact that hundreds of people of different backgrounds have been victims of murder at the hands of the police. I still stated that African-Americans are targeted at a disproportionate rate than other groups of people based on their skin color... And practically everyone in this thread defending #BlackLivesMatter says that is the exact reason why the hashtag exists: African-Americans are targeted so frequently despite only being about 13% of the population.
