"One Direction was never Zayn's sort of music so he kind of always wanted to find something else," Payne told Nick Grimshaw on the U.K.'s Radio 1 Monday (Aug. 3). "If your heart's not into something you can't just carry on doing it because of fame and stuff. You have to go and do what you want to do."
"There's too much history for there not to be love," he said. "But it's nice that we've banded together and I feel like we're stronger than ever now actually, which is strange but it's worked out really nicely for everybody."
Speaking to Magic Radio’s Jo Parkerson on his former bandmate’s use of the controversial hashtag #RealMusic , Liam shared: “I don’t think he meant it in that way [as a dig]….
“At least I hope he didn’t mean it that way… And the way he congratulated us on the single I think covers it.”
“It’s a difficult thing to leave the band, but his heart wasn’t in it and you have to go with your heart and say I can’t do this anymore and there is something out there that I do want to do that is different.
“And that’s fine.“
“I’m dead excited to hear some of his stuff, I did work with him in the studio when he was in the band.
“We used to stay up late and do rap stuff, which is quite interesting… Because i like to produce rap beats and stuff. He’s got a great voice and he’s a very talented young man and we wish him all the best of luck.”
He's a fool for auditioning for the X-Factor in the first place. Does he think if he won by himself that Simon would allow him to record anything different than the stuff 1D releases?
