I grew up upper middle class being the "token" because I spoke with proper english and didn't embody the typical stereotypes.
That transferred over into my career.
My parents paid for undergrad and the deal was that I pay for grad school.
I have an established career currently commanding 99k annual salary and I KNOW that I've received so much help from white people because I am 1/4 cuban 1/4 native american and half black with golden brown skin (not light not dark) and with dark green eyes. They don't feel as threatened by me and are more willing to help. They trust me more and I am able to deal in the white and black group although the black group can be a little wishy washy.
race privilege is real but so is class privilege and perception.
I take full advantage and am unapologetic.
Haters are always bothered that they talk to me AFTER weekly meetings and rely on me to do the real work and speak in front of our points of contact clients but hey don't blame me for not embodying the stereotype...
I always win and to the shady ones...I just shake em off...

I am white, although in Europe, especially in Germany, being white only counts if you don't look foreign. People from Turkey or Southern Europe, don't get the same treatment as the natives folks from The Neterlands, the UK or Scandinavia. Xenophobia is present here. Not in a threatening way to me personally, but just based on your name alone, people "compliment" you with saying something like: "Oh, your German is perfect. Wouldn't have guessed it beforehand"
Usually, I answer: Well, thank you very much. It's maybe because I am German.
However, I am fully aware that Blacks and Asians get a way tougher treatment, I will never experience on my own.
Strange enough, xenophobia and racism is way more increasing here than homophobia. Even in the gay scene where it was always present, but it gets worse.

How do they react when you say you are German. Like this?

Male privilege nationwide.
In Southern California I am part of the Latin majority in some places and the state has LGBT anti-discrimination laws so I think I'll stay perched here if I want to continue living in the US

And the reality is that everyone has factors working against them, far beyond race; height, weight, gender, sexuality, age, social class, perceived attractiveness, and many more are MASSIVE areas that either propel you forward or slow you down. Point being that everyone has something working against them to an extent, so bragging about your woes is useless.
Is it a level playing field? Hell no it isn't, nor is that fair. But at the end of the day, even if it takes more work for you to achieve a certain level of success than it does another, that level is still well within your reach. You just have to work harder and push through more bullsh*t. And at the end of the day, these people are the ones who positively change the perceptions of those who blocked their rise, and effectively help to diminish stereotypes.
"Your circumstances don't determine where you end up, they merely determine where you begin"

I get what you're saying, and I actually agree with most of what you said. I just don't see the problem with talking about privilege, as long as you are still striving, there's nothing wrong with acknowledging your obstacles and talking to someone about it, ESPECIALLY if someone makes an ignorant comment. You can talk about obstacles while overcoming them.

Yes (talking about racial and financial privilige). I wasnt too aware in Europe cuz almost everyone is white + has money but I'm in Sri Lanka rn and I feel so priviliged rn it hit me really hard. Like a little kid asking me if he could touch my skin and telling me he wants to have that too when he gets bigger. A bit disturbing

Coming from a supposed hella "underprivileged" background, I've had NO problem getting my ass to a top (public, but still top) college, finding scholarships, paying for that ****, getting jobs to support myself, and doing it all ON MY ****ING OWN. I can't wait for the day when people start assuming responsibility for their own lives and situations. **** this privilege nonsense, like what does it boil down to if we all have the same opportunities? Why do people choose to see their racial backgrounds as burdens now? As a minority, I'm proud to be who I am and hold no resentment towards any white person for any supposed upperhand they may have. Every interview I've been to, where the whitest of white, most "privileged of privileged," men is interviewing me, amongst a sea of white candidates, has gone just fine. Never have I thought I've been seen as anything other than myself. Sure, people have the power to judge based on stereotypes, but everyone also has the power to present themselves as who they are. And if someone is ignorant/stupid/pathetic enough to dislike you for anything other than who you are/what you do, then why waste your time on them? And why waste time pondering their hate/stupidity/whatever when you can spend that time building yourself up instead?
Maybe it's where I'm from because a lot of people I work with are black and Hispanic and share opinions similar to mine, even ones who perhaps are working themselves through community college, or those who never even stepped foot into a classroom after high school. Ironically, I'm from the South, in an area that's about evenly split between whites, blacks, and Hispanics. Whatever, this is the end of my long spiel. Just get so ruffled by all this talk of privilege and the sort.

Wow. I never thought I would see such a great, honest post on this site.

My family has a good income and although I'm a female, there's privileges to that too.
I'm a bit weird about my sexuality but I've settled with bi sexual so…

I'm would say I have privilege on being straight, able bodied and living in the USA.

True, i think being bi will help you more than if you were a full fledged lesbian out in the world unfortunately men would give you a much harder time because if you are Bi in their mind they think they have a chance.
It's sad...as long as you are true with yourself and play the game right you should be fine.

Yes I can admit that. I never been approached by the police or been followed by one. That's why I'm not one of those Caucasians that tell black people that they are crazy on what's going on and that they are being overly sensitive. I understand their outrage. I see the racial bias. Sandra Bland would not put out her cigarette so she gets slammed to the ground arrested, and dies in jail but Dylann Roof kills nine people at a church and gets a free Burger King meal? I see the ********.
I wish some white folks would stop being so clueless on what's going on because some of them are just very clueless. They don't understand what Blacks Lives Matter really mean and I have to explain to them and I'm not even black... SMH.

I've been to Egypt a few times, and local children do touch you to "get some of the luck of whites".
I count myself as extremely privileged to have grown up in a country where I can be gay. As a white male, you can be aware of privileges not afforded to others, but it's difficult to pinpoint everyday occurrences where I directly benefit, as they occur. It's more a backdrop rather than individual instances.

I have male and class privilege. We're not upper-middle class or well off but we live in a good house in a good neighborhood. Living in a developed country automatically gives you privilege.
My race and sexuality on the other hand...
