This might be the most noble scam of all-time. After being approached by ISIS recruiters online, three teenage girls from Chechnya catfished the terror organization and managed to scam $3,300 — ostensibly for travel — before being discovered.
The girls sent fake pictures and toyed with the recruiters long enough so that they were convinced they had found true believers to join the cause. Once the cash was transferred, however, the girls shut down all their accounts and left the recruiters hanging.
For anyone who hates ISIS, this is great news. The bad news? The girls are being investigated for fraud by a special Chechen police unit that monitors online activity.
"I don’t recall any precedent like this one in Chechnya, probably because nobody digs deep enough in that direction,” Valery Zolotaryov of the E unit told the local Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper. “Anyhow, I don’t advise anyone to communicate with dangerous criminals, especially for grabbing quick money.”
Yes, what the girls did was technically a crime — but when the people who get scammed are a significant threat to global security, one would hope the authorities would look the other way.
Hell, the U.S. government should hire these teens to try and recreate the scam on a larger scale.
It shouldnt be a crime tbh. ISIS have done terrible things that go against human rights. They should be put down. So I wish these teens dont get punished for it.
