It's funny how something like the killing of a beast unifies a community yet when we hear the terrorism acts committed by the American government we just tail it off.

The man's career, his life has been destroyed by the witch mob-like mentality that has been galvanized by the media and the public. Humanity showing its ugly face again, they don't want justice they want him to suffer. Two wrongs don't make a right. Not that I condone his action but what is justice for shooting a lion when numerous animals get poached and hunted everyday?

This lynch mob thing that is going on is ridiculous and a pure example of the hypocrisy and shallowness of the PC. Let's all bandwagon on a hate trend! We've already ruined this man's life let's carry on hating on him because we're bored and we need something to hate on! It's a fricken lion guys, why not focus that energy on the report of a US soldier raping a boy infront of his mother? Why not focus on the fact that 14.7m children live in poverty in the USA?

But nah let's focus on chasing down a helpless man because that's what everyone else is doing.

He didn't just kill a lion... he kills animals on the verge of extinction google his name and you'll find out this bitch kills animals for fun. Its wasn't just a lion sis.... but defend him I guess maybe you like to hunt too.

There are many, many problems in this ****ed world but that doesn't mean people shouldn't get mad at him for killing animals for fun.

Walter, IMO, is a very sick man and I'm pleased that both he and people that hunt have taken a huge, fat 'L'. May more negativity head his way. I am neither PC or a SJW or regularly get involved in "mobs".

The story of US soldiers raping boys at Abu Ghraib has not received a fraction of the coverage and I was unaware of it. It is possible to be entirely sickened by both scenarios.

But my point is so do thousands of other hunters on a daily basis. Why are we only being invigorated now?

Cecil was a popular figure and known worldwide. Walter may have thought he was killing a regular lion, unfortunately for him, he slayed an icon and is dealing with those consequences. It doesn't help that pictures of him with his "trophies" have been beamed around the world - and that most people's response to seeing needless animal cruelty is anger/upset - coupled with social media's availability in 2015.

It's like a perfect storm of events, the internet age allows for frenzy to build very quickly.

So basically the life of one lion means more to the public than the millions of other animals that are poached and subjected to even worse treatment every day. Brilliant hypocrisy

The state controls what the public thinks and that to me is terrifying.

He has a ton of money, I dont think his life is actually over. internet witch hunts like these may get out of hand sometimes but on the bright side, itll make people like him more hesitant to kill endangered animals for fun

Cecil's death highlighted the issue. As the story grew and other pictures of Walter were released (with young rhinos, leopards and such) it got even worse.

I do think the press can be easily influenced by governments to lead public opinion/thought to certain places, so I agree there - but Cecil/Walter blowing up virally doesn't strike me as something artificially engineered.

The problem with media sensationalism is that people will forget about this in 3 weeks as the media will have moved on to a new topic for the public to obsess over. If another hunting incident like this happens that the media can take advantage of then that might change... It depends on what direction they want to take this in.

It isn't hypocrisy, it's the same way things have always been.

You cannot end world hunger in a day,

You cannot end a war in one day.

You cannot punish all of the gross people in the world in one day.

You CAN spend a day to bring justice for one person. People don't do things when the feel like they don't have power -- mobs are a form a power, hence why so many people are joining him.

Furthermore, being in favor of Cecil's justice doesn't make me, pr anyone else, a hypocrite. I work at a non-profit and help the poor every day of my life, and I still donated money to Cecil's researchers. You can be vested in more than one thing at a time.
