UPDATE 2: Nintendo NX could be a PS4 level console
Quote:
Square Enix announced three versions of Dragon Quest XI today. One for 3DS, one for PS4 and the other for Nintendo’s NX. But we don’t know if NX is a console or handheld yet. Nintendo has hinted that its a console and with the Wii U’s sales and software support dwindling, a new home console in 2016 makes sense for Nintendo.
What’s interesting to note is that Square Enix has not said which version NX is getting. Is it getting the 3DS or PS4 version? The PS4 version runs off Unreal Engine 4 and in order to port the PS4 version to NX you would think the NX would have to at least be pretty close to the Xbox One in terms of horsepower. In addition to that, Epic advises at least 1TFlop of power to run Unreal 4.
Negotiations with Nintendo yet to happen
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida has revealed to DualShockers that a port of the game could come to the Nintendo NX, but there are still some hurdles to overcome.
Square Enix has already caused considerable interest by announcing that Dragon Quest X and Dragon Quest XI could both be NX-bound, so the publisher's commitment to the format isn't that much of a shock.
Yoshida stated that Square Enix is waiting to hear when the console will actually launch before making anything official. The company also needs to find out what Nintendo's policy will be regarding cross-platform gameplay, something which will be important considering that the game already has a large userbase on PC. According to the developer, negotiations with Nintendo still have to be started.
Looks like it's pretty much confirmed.
UPDATE 2
Quote:
With NX, Nintendo wants to create a platform where they can develop software for multiple devices with ease, from the home console to the portable to smartphone and tablets. They’ll have a big catalogue available for multiple platforms, with cross buy, cross saves and cross play, similar to what Microsoft is doing with Xbox One and PC thanks to Windows 10 (that allows to play many Xbox games on PC, which is also getting a bunch of ports from Xbone). Each platform will still have exclusive games
Wii U successor will not have an optical drive, which will be optional. It will sync with the portable (not obligatory). Specs won’t be super high, but close to PS4/X1 (doesn’t know how much, like with the portable this is still subject to change anyway). Cross games will look better on the home
I'm ready for it...kids these days be like ,, do you have a ps4 ?"
Me: ,,no"
,,why ?"
me: ,, I don't want one"
,,what?!!? Everybody needs one!"
Me: ,,..yeah sure.."
the last time I had this typa conversation it was with a 8 year old
I just got a wii U like 5 months ago, girl. They better offer trading in the Wii U for at least half the price + have support to play wii U game if it is a home councel
Knowing Nintendo it's going to be a handheld hybrid and we'll be lucky to even get Game Cube graphics...
That's my biggest fear. It's like Nintendo thinks they don't need great graphics as long as they keep releasing games with colorful visuals and unique art styles.
Nintendo is always going to be playing catch up if they keep prematurely releasing consoles. As much as they wanna be the first to have INNOVATIVE NEXT GEN features, it's always a hit or miss for them.
