The family is sacred to them and therefore children grow up in a two parent household and the importance of education is not only stressed but mandated in their household. The problem with African-American families is the sheer percentage of children born out of wed lock. There is no strong family ties in many of these communities and therefore children are lured out of education and into crime, thus perpetuating this vicious cycle. That being said, this is ALL a result of the horrendous policies towards African Americans by the Democratic party in the 1940's and 1950's.
A book called the Triple Package by Amy Chua explains this phenomenon with over a dozen ethnic groups in the US.

Your myopic view of this concept is disheartening. Asians have a culture that encourages family values and academic success, yes. That's why they are used as a buffer zone. When racists want to say, "black people are stupid there's no racism, look at asians" they can. Let's not forget Asian American success is fairly dependent on the fact that there's no laws in place against them (thanks to black people's Civil Rights efforts, not negating any Asian American efforts, but a large portion is the civil rights movement). When you have Asians thriving, here comes anti-black sentiments. They begin to think black people are worthless and dumb, and that's exactly what white people want. It all feeds anti-blackness and white supremacy. Asians are successful because of culture, you are right on that, but their culture has been utilized to further racist agendas. That's my point.
Also a lot of Asian American people come from immigrant parents. Immigrants and education is a whole other topic. There's a reason African immigrants have some of the highest success rates in education. And another thing to think about, not all Asians are the same. Southeast Asians have some of pretty poor academic success rates. It's mostly either Indians or East Asians that get the model minority label. Also think about the implications of the term "model minority", if that isn't the most blatantly divisive term...

It's all to make a certain group look worse (black people). I could go on forever.
