Discussion: Will Halsey be the new IT girl?

Her new single was released a few weeks ago and has been rising quickly in airplay on alternative radio, similar to how Royals by Lorde began its smash chart run. Is this going to be a worldwide smash too?

I admit, I wrote her off a few weeks ago because the song's a complete rip of Lana Del Rey, but her other songs are pretty good too. And I watched a few of her interviews and she sounds genuine and driven, so I can't help but root for her. Her music sounds better than most of whatever Top 40 is latching onto right now, which is atrocious mediocrity.

I can only repeat myself: she sounds like a Siri version of LDR & Sky Ferreira. I love Lana & Sky, but with Halsey I get the impression that you buy a cheap 5 $ fragrance bottle that gives you a headache instead of enjoying the good stuff.

So, she will probably be successful.

She kind of already has. HDD is already predicting a Lorde-esque debut for her album and that's without a hit yet. If "New Americana" continues its rise, she'll be everywhere.

I really don't mind though, she's someone I'd like to see grow and evolve. She's really young too so she has so much room for improvement.

Well you know, room to improve means that there is some kind of fundament to build on, but I am not seeing it.

I mean, people love to trash Lana, Lorde, Sky, Marina or any other female singer with a popularity on tumblr for having cliché or try-hard lyrics, but nobody can deny that they can evolve these songs with a perfect delivery when the words fail them. Halsey's songs just fall flat on their face and there is the difference, because there is no substance.
To me it feels like some label guy walked around stopping random girls on the streets & asking them to give him their worst Lana / Sky / Marina impressions and she won and got the record deal. New Americana is a good example of that. She takes images from National Anthem, trivializes them shamelessly and on top of that, she even makes a similar melody in the chorus. Some folks really want to cash in on the success of Born To Die & co.

At first I was quite excited about her because I was hoping for some good music a la Lana, Lorde etc, but this just not it.

I KNEW IT. I've been saying she will sell a lot of albums first week and everyone will be shocked, for a while now. Her album is inside the top 100 on itunes and it's still 1 month away to it's release, the items on her web store are almost all sold out, I feel like she will do more than Ryn Weaver, Ciara and Hilary numbers.

I didn't know she had a huge fanbase considering how many anti-stans she has.
