Most of y'all have a very narrow perception of the industry but that's not surprising.
I agree with the fonts saying Grace Jones, Björk, etc. They aren't mainstream acts but they still have some impact. "Massive" is too strong a word to use in this case as you can't achieve massive impact without being very popular.

Lol, of course you can.
Many legends (and their most important releases) that have massive impact today were initially commercial failures, but their albums became bigger as the time went by and still continue to sell today, so now it doesnt seem as severe as it was. Many game changing, most impactful artists were seen as obscure, but time revealed that their music had huge impact and changed the whole industry, or gave birth to new genres of music.
VU is the most famous example, they pioneered several genres (alternative, noise, industrial, avant garde, experimental and punk rock) with just one album that has sold only few thousand (around 30 000) copies WW, and no album by them achieved mainstream success. Or Kraftwerk, their experimentation with electronic music has lasting impact on almost all genres today, infiltrating hip hop, pop, even rock and birthing electronic music as a whole with album that initially sold only around 40 000 WW and so on. If thats not massive impact on music industry, then what is?
