Why does Thinking Out Loud deserve it? Numbers aren't everything, but it's safe to say that a great video will generate buzz that leads to more video views, which lead to subscriptions/shares, so bringing up Ed makes no sense for your argument when looking at the numbers.

What makes a good/bad video is completely subjective, so there's no point in "He's just dancing with a woman!!!1!!" comments so save your breath. If the video was terrible, you would see its views declining, just like other bad videos. Instead, they remain steady even now. Clearly SOMEONE (well, a lot of someones) think the video is worth watching and sharing.
And btw, I heard no comments, saw no tweets, and heard nary a note of 7/11 played on any radio station on July 11th this year, but I guess I can see what happens next year (if I remember the song exists at that point).
