This operates on the assumption that being in a group makes it easier to become more successful or generate interest. It's not.
And are we really going to pretend DC was the type of group that actually relied on all the members'? This was a Diana/Supremes type of set up, not a TLC/Spice Girls where there were more even contributions and popularity among members. It was a running joke about how the members revolved around Bey in the media hence that Wendy interview where Bey had to continuously check her for referring to them as "BEYONCÉ and the girls..."
