Gay baker calls homosexual activists "Nazis"
Quote:
I have been heavily criticized in the past for coining the term "Gay Gestapo" to describe the bullying tactics of the homosexual lobby.
Thus I was heartened when lesbian activist and homosexual marriage supporter Tammy Bruce picked up the term in a column she wrote in the wake of Christian bakers Aaron and Melissa Klein being pummeled, harassed, fined and driven out of business by vitriolic and hate-filled homosexual activists.
The Kleins are facing a fine of $135,000 issued by some bureaucrat in Oregon for the crime of exercising their First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion.
"Under these rules, freedom of conscience is squashed under the jackboot of liberals, all in the Orwellian name of 'equality and fairness.' Horribly, the gay civil rights movement has morphed into a Gay Gestapo. Its ranks will now do the punishing of those who dare to be different or dissent from the approved leftist dogma."

Quote:
Further support has come from a most improbable source, a homosexual baker by the name of Jesse Bartholomew.
"Hi guys, my name is Jesse and I bake wedding cakes for a living, and I cannot tell you how disgusted I am with my fellow gay and lesbian community – that they would stoop so low as to force someone to bake a cake for them who simply doesn't agree with them.
"And before you can go and blame me and say that they have to – no, they don't have to. They don't have to bake a cake for you.
"There's no other bakers out there? It's plain and simple: you are bullying someone, you are forcing someone, you are being a Nazi and forcing someone to bake a d*** wedding cake for you when there are hundreds of other gays and lesbians that would gladly have your business. Shame on you."
|
I agree with this. If someone doesn't want to make a cake - they don't have to make a cake. I think people are going to these businesses and suing them on purpose. It's disgusting.

I think the term "Nazi" is not the idealistic term to use.
However, I do agree with him in one thing: you can't FORCE someone to bake a cake. If they don't want to that's their loss, you go to another bakery who will bake an even more FABULOUS cake for you.
I get the whole principle of "don't discriminate" and all that, but suing for 135,000 dollars? come on. Why not just sue for the price of the cake?
Anyways, for the businesses turning people away, they also need to deal with the consequences (Memories Pizza, some other bakeries), if you deny service and it goes viral, of course you need to face the fact that people will target you for discrimination and refusal of service: So i'm not sorry for you either

Quoting a site by Fischer, a man who if given the power would recriminalize homosexuality. Great job.

They were sued that much because the Kleins posted the person's personal information after receiving a letter they would have to appear before a commission. After that the lesbian couple got death threats and their foster daughter could've been taken away from them. It was for those reasons, not the refusal. The refusal wouldn't have garnered that big of a fine.

What is a commission? Is that considered a lawsuit?

The couple rarely talked about it, they even dropped the original complaint. It was the Kleins that kept peddling their story and at first were told by the Bureau to stop, but didn't.

The bakers managed to raise $400,000 which they can keep to themselves so it's not they are dead broke by the way.
The baker quoted Leviticus. I had a thread on the official Oregon verdict, let me dig it up.

I don't agree. If you serve the public you must serve all of the public. You can't refuse service to other minorities either.

Yes, because everyone has a sign up front that automatically tells you if they're religious

You have a right to refuse service in certain situations. They didn't discriminate based on a characteristic, but the intended use of the cake.

Why can't you respect the fact that they are and move on? Once it is evident they are religious why would you force yourself on them? Why are your rights more important then their rights?
They have the First Amendment that is supposed to protect them.

I am saying that Goosey is implying people see a bakery and go there JUST to sue. No one knows that the bakers are religious most of the time until they themselves say so. The couple dropped the suit, it was the bakery keeping the story alive.

If you knew anything, you would know that businesses reserve the right to refuse service to customers. Don't you ever see those shady stores that post signs like this?

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

Why would a gay couple want to be giving their money to a religious shop owner if they hate religious people so much? Just go get a cake somewhere else.

They weren't fined for not serving a cake. They were fined for giving out the couple's private information which resulted in them receiving a lot of harassment and death threats

You can, but once the reason is known and it clashes with anti-discrimination laws then it's up in the air to see what will happen. They don't hate religious people, it was actually the baker that quoted Leviticus so I would say if anyone is not keen on anyone it's him.
