It looks like 50 Cent is sizing up Jay-Z for a little album sell-off this year. A date has been set for 50's highly anticipated album (that has been the victim of several push-backs) for September 11th, 2009; the same release date as Jay-Z's Blueprint 3.
50 Cent made a promise earlier this year when he said that his album, Before I Self Destruct, would hit stores following the release of Relapse from label mate Eminem. That day has come and gone and 50 is ready to keep his word while making a little history of his own.
50 is no stranger to a little album battling. Just 2 years ago, he took on Kanye West in a very publicized album release battle that ended with 50 moving less units than Kanye. Ironically, both Jay-Z and 50 Cent have released albums on September 11th; Jay released Blueprint September 11th, 2001 while 50 released Curtis September 11th, 2007.
Jay has already gone on record to confirm the completion of Blueprint 3 in a recent interview with DJ Drama.
"Yeah, pretty much it's done. You know I still tweak it. I made 'PSA' was the last record I made on The Black Album and 'Give It To Me' was the last record I made on Dynasty. So, I'm always open to recording new records. It's pretty much done, it could go out the door right now. September 11th, the first date, it's the anniversary of the original one, of course it's a tragedy as well so we're going to be doing a lot of great things with charities and everything."
In addition to completing Blueprint 3, Jay-Z has reportedly signed a three book deal. The first book will be titled Decoded and will give Jay a chance to decode his lyrics from the songs he selects to give his fans a deeper look into his songwriting.
As for 50, the rapper released his mixtape War Angel earlier this month and it is available as a free download on his site thisis50.com.
Two bona fide sought after albums are prepared to drop on the same day, whose album are you most looking forward to?

I can't believe that 50 Cent is using Jay-Z to sell albums. He knows that this going to get attention, and will benefit his album sales. However, unlike last time, we're pretty sure who's going to win this fight. 50 knows that Jay-Z could still sell units without hit singles. Judging on the sales of
Curtis, 50 can't do that yet. I'm looking forward at how Jay-Z pulverizes 50.
